This poem is one of the very origin of two major poetry categories in classic Chinese poetry, the Homesick and Thinking of People Poetry(思乡怀人诗) and Farewell Poetry(送别诗). The scenario reflected when seeing buddy off does not change much since this poem till today: after a long accompanied farewell journey, in ancient times it could be weeks and months, finally parting his buddy somewhere at riverfront with toasts.
The aristocracy marriage is reflected and illustrated in this poem with some my own interpretation.
“娈彼诸姬,聊与之谋” could also be interpreted as: with all my love and thinking to those Ji people(诸姬:her father, brothers, sisters and all relatives of her father side far away in her hometown), It was those Ji people that she relied on and planned with. The character 娈 means adore and love, 聊 means rely on.
Check this lyric of background song: Farewell(送别/李叔同 ), and see how this modern song simulates and differs from Spring Flows.
