Chinese poem illustration: 塞下曲六首 其一/ Under the Fortress by Li Bai

By Li Bai but less popular than the other two Under the Fortress poems by Lu Lun(卢纶) and Xu Hun(许浑), could be a very good reference reflecting the flavor of different time, different poets: from romantic, positive Prosperous Tang period (li Bai) to sad realism in Late Tang period(Xu Hun). Lu Lun is sitting in the middle , a bit closer to Prosperous Tang period.
The famous wording Behead Loulan(斩楼兰) is analysed thoroughly.

五月天山雪，
无花只有寒。
笛中闻折柳，
春色未曾看。
晓战随金鼓，
宵眠抱玉鞍。
愿将腰下剑，
直为斩楼兰。
