Summoned to the royal palace in his 40s by imperial order in year of 742, Li Bai thought this is the ultimate turn of his whole life. While 2 years later, he was abandoned by the emperor. The immense fury, sadness and sorrow never recovered in his rest life. This poem was most probably written after 1 or 2 years after he left Chang’an city, and we can still feel the huge sadness and fury beneath.

With comparison to Drinking Alone Under the Moon(月下独酌), we can feel some changes of Li Bai, he managed to reason all the mishappenings, yet could not figure out anything with a totally destroyed soul. This is not expression of feeling, it is hopeless yelling with heart and liver broken into many pieces.
