The very simple Tang poem could mean big, a popular classic poem for Chinese kids, simple, picturesque ,a song for the eternity of life.

Bai Juyi wrote this poem with very strong intention at the age of 18. First , as a vehicle to pass the imperial exam. Second, his own solute to the roots of Chinese literacy, Book of Songs(诗经) and Chu Ci(楚辞).

This poem revive again and again through movies , songs, paintings. Just name one modern song “Seeing Off/送别” by Li Shutong/李叔同, every now and then you would hear this song among Chinese.

赋得古原草送别
白居易

离离原上草,
一岁一枯荣。
野火烧不尽,
春风吹又生。

远芳侵古道,
晴翠接荒城。
又送王孙去,
萋萋满别情。
