喜乃安葬之意,其金文之象乃棺椁平安着地也,周易否“上九:傾否,先否後喜”乃言窆棺有倾斜,否即悬棺下窆之象,后喜即窆棺终吉,平安落地。僖公五年“秋,諸侯盟,王使周公召鄭伯曰,吾撫女以從楚,輔之以晉,可以少安,鄭伯喜於王命,而懼其不朝於齊也,故逃歸不盟”乃言郑伯安于王命,因而不盟,盖此盟乃首止之盟之重申,齐桓公意图巩固太子郑的王位也,在此也可看出周惠王不欲太子郑和齐桓公做大而怂恿郑伯联合晋楚以助王权。僖公二十八年“公子歂犬,華仲,前驅,叔孫將沐,聞君至,喜,捉髮走出,前驅射而殺之,公知其無罪也,枕之股而哭之”,杨伯峻对喜字无言,其断句之误也,当为“闻君至喜”,至喜之辞来源于诗经,言卫君归国已安稳,叔孙因而心悦也。僖公二十六年“公使展喜犒師”,展喜当此子之名和字也,展乃大遣奠送亡时赙赗随葬铺陈林立的样子,喜乃安葬之象,皆意指吉葬也。

豳风七月“饁彼南畝、田畯至喜”乃送葬成葬之景,大遣奠,路祭直至南亩,行田事而下葬(畯),棺椁成葬(至)而喜(安),此乃淑吉有臧也,君子之志,君子之求也。
