A typical inter-state marriage only happened between state lord families or aristocrat families, this is a key background to this poem. An interesting story recorded by Zuozhuan(左传) is illutrated in the video as well: at the front line, a general expressed his determination and dedication to his headquarter by just reciting this poem without any other comments.

Chinese poem illustration: 邶风 匏有苦叶/Bei Wind – Gourd Leaves Bittered Full video also available at Bilibili: 邶风 匏有苦叶 Crossing the river or not, a long-lasting and eternal metaphor of determination and successRead More…

[4691,558,973
2533,4543,2470,4537,4538,4544,4539,4286,4536,4542,4540
post-8153","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-of-songs","category-history-2","category-973","tag-bei-wind","tag-engagement","tag-2470","tag-4537","tag-gourd","tag-pao-you-ku-ye","tag-rubicon-river","tag-zuozhuan","tag-4536","tag-4542","tag-4540
["GET
