Nobody is sure what species exactly it is. From the history literature, it is a humble vegetable for poors while adored by hermits living in big mountians. The character itself indicates the leaves or flowers is tiny, it also implys fading away. Finally the word of picking up wild pea(\u91c7\u8587) was connected with hermit life in Chinese literature, while it is hard to tell if this metaphor was employed in this poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This poem is about a war with the nomad invaders from northwest(\u7303\u72c1), it doesn&#8217;t talk much about the war itself but the life of the poet\/soldiers and their families back home, the sadness of separation from each other, the huge worry toward each other: are they still alive? do they still have food?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This poem laid the cornerstone of the later poetry genre: Trip of Duty Poetry(\u7f81\u65c5\u884c\u5f79\u8bd7) and Thinking of Home and People Poetry(\u601d\u4e61\u6000\u4eba\u8bd7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chinese poem illustration\/\u5c0f\u96c5 \u91c7\u8587\/\u4f5a\u540d   Hermit and war?
